Maoguang Christian Church

Maoguang Christian Church is the only Christian church in Gurao. The Church is located in Maoguang village of the Gurao township.
Christianity was first preached in Gurao around 1868. A family group was formed, using the courtyard of the Ruiguag and Ruide LIN brothers as a gathering place. As the group grew, it was necessary to find a proper place for formal worship. A location in Maoguang was later chosen to build a church auditorium. The construction work started in November 1937 and completed in August 1938. An inauguration ceremony was held on the 17th January 1939, using the name Gurao Christian Church. Later the Church established its True Gospel Primary School and Preschool. From July 1957, the church property was seized by the then government and the auditorium building was used for medical clinic services, local court and neighborhood administration, respectively. In 1986, Mr. Deng Xiaoping ended the "Cultural Revolution" and Christianity was allowed to preach again. During this period, christian group worship activities in Maoguang were led by the late Dr. Yichi LIN and held in his house for several years. |

Praise to God, in April 1991, due to the government's new policy on religious affairs, the church property was returned to Maoguang Christian Church. The Church carried out some repair work and moved into the property in March 1992, with church services re-opened to the public. Maoguang Christian Church started to flourish again and God kept adding numbers to the church congregation, which has grown to almost 1000 in recent years.
Maoguang Christian Church currently undertakes many programs to serve and transform the community of Gurao. It runs several Sunday school classes, approx 180 children in total. It has children and youth choirs with more than 100 members. Frequent youth group activities are also part of the church life. Maoguang Christian Church hosts visitors from other churchs in China and overseas.
The long history of the church auditorium building determines it has come to a time for a new building. The design for a four-storey new building is adopted. The old auditorium building was demolished in December 2009 and preparation of foundation has started. The church congregation has a prayer program to call for God's grace and provision of the needed finance for the construction of the new auditorium building to continue and complete.
Previous pastors serving the Church include: Yincai CHEN, Shaohui CAI, Shenfei XUE, Chunxiang CHEN, Rizhang HONG, Yanshan LIN, Guangxi XU and Muren LIN. Current serving pastors are Qian YOU and Haizhen WU.
